Jewelry Care

BOFEMME IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR NATURAL WEAR, MAINTENANCE OR IMPROPER CARE OF JEWELRY.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY JEWELRY?

We suggest you remove your jewelry while showering, swimming and exercising. Please avoid contact with perfumes, lotions or hair products as they can increase the wear on your pieces. Do not use harsh chemicals, bleach, oil, or jewelry cleaners as this can affect the finishing.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY JEWELRY?

We recommend storing your Bofemme in the jewelry pouches they ship in. Store each piece individually (to avoid scratching) in a cool, dry place.

HOW CAN I CLEAN MY JEWELRY?

For best cleaning we recommend using a solution of warm water and detergent-free soap with a soft bristle brush. Dry with a jewelry safe cloth.

WHY IS MY JEWELRY TURNING COLORS?

Every person’s unique skin-oils react differently to certain metals and plating. We are not responsible for your skin's reaction to our products. Gold Filled jewelry will turn naturally over time, and there is no way to reverse this. You can prolong the life of your pieces by following our care recommendations.

MY HOOP EARRING BACK IS LOOSE, WHAT CAN I DO?

Gently squeeze the loose prongs on the back of the hoop together to create more tension.

WHAT IS MY JEWELRY MADE OF?

Each piece of Bofemme is made up of its own metals. See description in product page for material details.

WHAT IS GOLD FILLED?

Gold filled is an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded to another metal. Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plating as filled literally has 100% more gold than gold plating. Gold filled is tarnish resistant; It does not flake off, rub off or turn colors. With proper care, Gold filled should last as long as solid 14k gold jewelry & is safe for most people with sensitive skin.

WHAT IS GOLD PLATED?

Gold-plated jewelry is base metal such as steel or brass that is dipped into a bath of electroplating solution, with a lump of solid gold. When an electric current is applied, a thin layer of gold is deposited on the metal. Since the plating is quite thin, the color can wear off.

GOLD FILLED VS GOLD PLATED?

Gold Filled is the closest to thing to 14k gold- items will fade and become darker over time but not turn to reveal a different metal underneath.  Gold plated is a coat of gold over a lesser metal such as brass, copper or nickel. It is subject to color loss, quicker and easier than Gold Filled.

WHAT IS 14K GOLD?

14K is the hardest & most durable of the Karat Golds. It is composed of 58.3% gold and 41.7% of other metals.. as pure gold is too soft to wear everyday.
